FOXCOTE. Robbery at Foxcote Catholic Chapel.—Sometime during the night of Sunday last, the Sacristy of the Roman Catholic Chapel of Foxcote, near Stratford, was broken into, and a number of very valuable articles connected with the Roman Catholic faith were stolen. Amongst others, a silver crucifix, 14 inches high silver chalice, gilded; three silver boxes; a silver remonstrancer, with many other things of great worth. A reward of £20 is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offenders, and proportionate reward for the recovery of any of the stolen articles. Coventry Herald, 11 Dec 1840. David Rolfe and John Rolfe have been committed to Warwick gaol charge of robbing the Roman Catholic chapel, at Foxcote, near Shipston. They offered to Mr. Thomas Strange, clock and watchmaker, of Banbury, a piece of silver about 40oz for sale, and Mr. Strange, with a most praiseworthy promptitude, with the assistance of a policeman, secured the one who offered the silver for sale, and the other was afterwards taken, under a strong suspicion of it being dishonestly obtained. Northampton Mercury, 23 Jan 1841. The same day, David Ruff and John Ruff, were convicted of breaking and entering the Catholic Chapel at Foxcote, near Shipston-upon-Stour, and stealing the communion plate and other articles value. They were sentenced to 15 years’ transportation. Oxford Chronicle, 3 April 1841.
