Confusion of the 2 William Rushtons. The one on the Dick married Mary Foran 1829. We are not able to delete information already submitted to a page -- hopefully this will clarify things.. The following information is transposed from the page of the William Rushton on the Dick which should be on the Coromandel: JJames on 7th October, 2012 wrote: 1806 Muster as William “RUSTIN”, in government employ at Parramatta. Partners with SOPHIA. From 1828 Census Sophia is aged 43, and came per Experiment. Said arrived in 1801. But Experiment arrived 1st in 1804. One Sophia on board was Blundell who is accounted for elsewhere with marriage to Stafford Lett and a petition in 1812. The other Sophia is SOPHIA JAMES convicted at Pembroke, England on 18 Aug 1801. In 1806 she was also living at Parramatta in the Female Factory. There are no otehr records for her so it is probably this Sophia who partners with William Rushton of ‘Coromandel’. Based on 1828 Census information and some NSW BDM records, they have 4 children before William is convicted again: 1. Mary RUSHTON born 1809 or 1810 2. Ann born 1811 (V181 767) 3. John Born 1813 (V1814 425) 4. Thomas born 1815 (V1816 747) William goes to Newcastle for 2 years from 1815 - 1817 before the 5th child is born: 5 Joseph 1821 or 1822 (V1821 5851) On 7 August 1815 (Colonial Sec Corro of same date, Sec Campbell to NSewcastle Commandant) William was sent to Newcastle on the:Lady Nelson” under a 2 year sentence, crime not stated. Letter dated 22 Oct 1817 Newcastle Commandant wrote back to Secretary Campbell that he had “permitted Wm Rushton to go to Sydney in consequence of his time {xx] having expired and having a large family in Sydney nearly destitute of their [indecipehrable] in life”. [Col Dec’s Correspondence, letter 22/10/1817] 1821 Muster: in government employment at Parramatta 1822 Muster at Parramatta, occupation of “Nailor” 1823 - Sentenced to 2 years exile to Port Macquarie for stealing in the house of William Cordeaux. [Sydney Criminal Court Sittings, April - May 1823} Guity with Henry Cornish & Isaac Howard] Transported per vessel “Sally” to POrt Macquarie, document recording he could return after 10 May 1825. 1825 Muster - recorded as being at POrt Macquarie. Children recorded in 1825 Muster: Mary 15, Ann 13, John 11, Thomas 9, Joseph, 4. 1828 Census. Sophia is the main householder. Living with her are only John aged 15 and Joseph now 6. Thomas, 13, is working as a servant of William Hicks at Parramatta. Sophia also has in her household a grandson, also called John Rushton, aged 4. (Son of either Mary or Ann who are not recorded in the household). William Rushton was not living at Parramatta with them as he was on the “Iron Cove Gang”, so hds been put back on a convict gang. In 1832 Sophia died. Aged 47 based on census information but death certificate stated 52 years. 1833 William got Ticket of Leave? Cancelled when he was found in possession o stolen goods. returned again to an iron gang by a bench of magistrates. 1839 - granted Ticket of Leave. (Pardons etc 1842 -45; image 247 of 920 per Ancestry.com) 1843 - Permission graned December 1843 for 55 year old W illiam to marry 50 year old Mary Ann Parker, Ticket of Leave, having arrived per “Sarah Eliza” under 7 year sentence. No further records located. Death could be one of several William RusTON/RUSTIN or a different record of death: 1847 William H RUSDEN, Sydney 1849 William RUSTON aged 72, but too old on earlier stated age. 1858 William RUSHTON Liverpool aged 82, but too old on 55 yr age in 1843. 1883 William RUSTEN at Canterbury is the William who arrived on the “Elizabeth” in 1820.

William married Mary Leonard (Foran) in 1829, Sydney. Mary was the daughter of Mary Bridget Dunn (Convict, Northampton, 1815) and her UK husband James Leonard. Mary (jnr) had come free to the colony with her transported mother, as she was less than 2 years old.
