1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Winchester Assizes.—The following completes the list of the prisoners and their sentences John Vewer, James Wallis, Charles Russell, and John Williams, all lads, for a burglary, at New Alresford, in the dwelling-house of J. L. Winn; ... Death recorded; ... Salisbury Journal, 21 July 1834. The following convicts, capitally convicted the last assizes, have been removed on board the Leviathan Hulk, at Portsmouth: —... John Yewer, Charles Russell, and John Harris, for fourteen years. Salisbury Journal, 8 Sept 1834.

Court and date of trial: Hampshire Summer Assizes, Southampton, July 1834. Crime: Burglary, at the premises of John Laurence Winn in the Parish of New Alresford, Hampshire on 27 April 1834. Initial sentence: Death recorded and commuted to 14 years transportation. Gaoler's report: 'Character etc bad'. Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'. Petitioner(s): Harriet Russell (widowed mother) undersigned by John Johnson (late master) and 20 inhabitants of the Parish of St Mary, Southampton, known to the convict. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Previous good character; fell into bad company and led astray by them; his youth. Additional Information: Ordered to Leviathan [convict hulk]; convicted with three others [unnamed].

HAMPSHIRE ASSIZES. On Wednesday sennight, these Assizes concluded, and in addition to our report given last week, the remaining prisoners convicted were sentenced as follows; and the others acquitted: Death Recorded. John Yewer, James Wallis, Chas. Russell, and John Williams, for breaking open a house at Alresford, and stealing various articles, the property of J. L. Winn. Reading Mercury, 28 July 1834. -------------------------------------------------- The mother of John Yewer sent a petition regarding her son: National Archives. Criminal Petitions.
