Pat. Russel, Pat. Murphy, and Judith Ryan were put to the bar, charged with highway robbery Patrick Hackett, of Cashel. Pat. Hackett being sworn stated that between six and seven o'clock the evening of the ? of January, was knocked down within a few yards of the old main guard this town, and robbed £18 - 8s. of his own money, and of a bill of Mr Joyce for belonging to a person in Cashel; that the prisoners waylaid him; that the prisoner, Russell, seized him the throat and had nearly choked him, and while he was held down, the other two prisoners rifled his pockets in question, and that he was very ill for several days after in Cashel from the beating he got, that he watched for the prisoners all day Saturday and Sunday Clonmel, and that seeing the two men into lane he enquired their names and having learnt them, went back to Cashel, as the Mayor's office was shut; he returned on Tuesday, lodged information before the Mayor: gave the warrant to Police Sergeant Moylan, who took them into custody. Sergeant Moylan swore he apprehended the prisoners, who were exactly as described to him by the prosecutor: the prisoners are noted pickpockets; found last Friday that the prosecutor got a note for the amount of the sum taken from him, from the brother of the female prisoner, went to look for him and found him among a parcel of pickpockets who, he had no doubt, intended to put him out of the way by drowning; that he brought the prosecutor to the barrack, and kept him until now, and prosecutors wife told him of his getting the note for the money. Catherine Doughy and Larry Ryan endeavoured to prove an alibi for the female prisoner, by both swearing that she was ill for the preceding fortnight, and in consequence of illness on the day question, she went into the house of the female witness and to avoid the noise the children in this house, she lay on the bed (Much laughter.) death recorded; these wretched people are to be transported for life. Clonmel Herald, 26 March 1834. CLONMEL ASSIZES—RULE OF COURT. ... Sentence of death recorded. — ... Patrick Russel, Pat. Murphy, and Judith Ryan, for robbery;;  Waterford Mail, 2 April 1834.
