On Friday last, Robert Russell, of Crowland, labourer, was committed by the Rev. Dr. Moore, for trial at the next quarter sessions at Spalding, for stealing on the 30th ult. a fat sheep from off some coleseed, the property of Mr. Bailey, of Peterborough: being a wet night, Russell's feet marks were traced from the field to his house. The prisoner has long been suspected, having been concerned in various felonies. Lincolnshire Chronicle, 12 Dec 1845. Robt. 47, was convicted of killing sheep, and stealing the legs and shoulders, the 30th Nov.last, the property of Mr. Wm. Bailey. The evidence was very clear In this case, and the jury without any hesitation returned a verdict of guilty.—Ten years’ transportation. Stamford Mercury, 16 Jan 1846,
