Margaret RYAN or CURTIS was convicted at Kilkenny, Ireland on 21 Oct 1850 for burglary and robbery. Previous conviction. 10 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' arriving 1851. Aged 29yrs; housemaid; 4'11 1/2"; Roman Catholic; can read' single woman. Native Place: Kings County, Ireland. Mother: Margaret Sister: Bridget Sister: Catherine - also onboard this ship Brother: Dennis Assigned to work services in the Colony. 21 Feb 1854: Application for permission to marry. 7 March 1854: Married William Hodson at Church of St. Joseph, Hobart. William aged 46 yrs, labourer. Margaret aged 28yrs, servant. (Ref. this is her correct husband as his name is recorded on her Conduct sheet, as there are several Margaret Ryan's in records. 37/1/13 no. 661.) 19 Sept 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 20 April 1858: Conditional Pardon approved. n.b. There are three Margaret Ryan's transported on this voyage of the 'Blackfriar'.
