Daniel Ryan was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes




The Convict Indentures state that Daniel Ryan was 30 years old. He could read; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Tipperary. He was an Attorney's clerk and land steward. Daniel was convicted of pig stealing on 6 October 1835 in Limerick City and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 6 3/4 inches; complexion dark sallow and freckled; hair sandy brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 131. Prisoner number 36-1934. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1843 (number 43/1331). 1837 NSW General Muster states that Daniel was assigned to Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney.
