Reference Number: t18221204-104 Offence: Theft > pocketpicking Verdict: Guilty; Guilty Punishment: Transportation PHILIP MARKS and JOHN RYAN were indicted for stealing, on the 11th of November , a watch, value 30 s.; a chain, value 5 s.; and two seals, value 5 s.; the goods of George Cotton, from his person . MARKS - GUILTY . Aged 37. RYAN - GUILTY . Aged 19. Transported for Life Philip Marks arrived VDL per ‘Asia 1823’ John Ryan was born at Aldgate. He was 5’ 8 ½” tall, blue eyes, dark brown hair, single. Occupation “Groom/General Servant”. 1828: Absconded – which is how he was listed up until the 1835 Muster.
