ADM 101/21/7A/61818-1819 Journal of the Convict Ship Earl St Vincent for 22 July 1818 to 15 January 1819 by John Johnson, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a voyage to New South Wales. Folio 1: Michl [Michael] Ryan, taken ill at Cove, sick or hurt; itch, taken ill on 23 July 1818. Folios 14-17: Michl [Michael] Ryan, aged 18, taken ill at sea, sick or hurt; swelling from of the right knee over the patella; taken ill on 29 October 1818. Folio 17: 23 November 1818; convicts attended the usual duties, Ryan and Connor able to use their legs with tolerable freedom and ease, ordered W. Simpson to issue ½ pint of wine to each convicts every Tuesday beside the present allowance. Folio 17: 29 November 1818; convicts attended the usual duties and issued wine, Ryan's leg slight swelling.

After he attained his freedom he was a labourer at Windsor and the 1828 census shows he was an overseer of Father Therry's farm at Pittwater He wed Johanna Wallace a bounty immigrant from Mallow Cork Ireland at Mr John McEvoys Cooley Camp Patterson river NSW in October 1839.

Michael Ryan was listed as 17 years old on arrival in NSW (Born 1800) but family research records him as only 14 years old. He was transported for "Larceny from a dwelling". On arrival Michael was sent to Parramatta for general distribution. 1822 Muster: Assigned to James Meehan's clearing party at Liverpool. 22/8/1822: Assigned to Andrew Byrne, Sydney. 3/3/1835: COF. 1825 Muster: A Labourer at Windsor, Free by Servitude. 20/8/1826: Imprisoned in Newcastle Gaol for 6 months. He was then described as: A Labourer, 5'5" tall, ruddy complexion, stout build, shot wound on his right arm and right leg. He was lame in the right leg. 1828 Census: Employed as an Overseer on Rev. J.J.Therry's 200 acre property at Pitt Town. 1839: Married Johanna Wallace at Maitland. They had 12 children. (Johanna was an Irish Bounty Immigrant B1819/1897). 7/1/1869: Michael died in the District of Armidale, NSW, aged 66. Parents shown as Daniel R. and Johanna. His native place is given as Kilkenny in a number of documents, so location of conviction may well be Kilkenny. As he was given freedom in 1825, it is probable that his sentence was 7 years, but I have no records of his conviction
