Joseph Sams was convicted at Sheffield for committing unnatural offences. Life Sentence. Transported to Australia on the 'Maitland' arriving 08/02/1844. Ship Surgeon's report: good. Protestant; labourer; 25yrs of age; 5'4"; fresh complexion; light hair; stout build; single. Native Place: Hertford. Assigned to Norfolk Island (off east coast of New South Wales). Transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). 24/01/1854: Ticket of Leave 06/03/1855: Conditional Pardon 24/10/1855: died, at Launceston, Tasmania.
