He was tried for possession of forged bank notes at Monmouth Lent Assizes Wales on 30 3 1818, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1819 after a voyage of 7months on BARING; he was 5'5.5" pale complexion black hair blue eyes. He had been issued his Ticket of Leave & was a shoemaker when he married firstly with permission Mary Ann (Crane) on 28 5 1821 at St Phillips CofE Sydney.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] Mary Ann (Crane) was born about 1794/6 in England. She arrived in NSW free with her sister Elizabeth following her father on 18 6 1815 after a voyage of 6months on NORTHAMPTON [may have been MARY ANN/E 1816). She died on 16 11 1825 age31 in Sydney & was buried with her husband at Devonshire St cemetery St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1827. He is recorded in 1828 as shoemaker living with his family at Princess St Sydney. He died on 20 4 1830 age37 in Sydney shoemaker father of at least 2children & was buried with his first wife at Devonshire St cemetery St Phillips CofE Sydney. Emma (Walker) was born in 1807 in England. She arrived in NSW with her mother on 18 6 1815 after a voyage of 6months on NORTHAMPTON. She is recorded in 1828 living with her family at Princess St Sydney. Details of Emma (Walker)s family are given in entry for Richard (Walker SOMERSETSHIRE 1814) on this Website. Samuel (Evans) & Emma (Walker) produced at least 2children: 1.Charles Henry (Evans) was born on 19 8 1827 & baptised on 9 9 1827 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He is recorded in 1828 living with his parents at Princess St Sydney. He died on 2 5 1843 age16. 2.Georgiana (Evans) was born on 6 5 1829 & baptised on 5 7 1829 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She died on 1 5 1898 age69-. Samuel, a shoemaker by trade, appeared before the Monmouth Lent Assizes on 30th March 1818 and received a sentence of 14 years transportation for having in his posession forged bank notes, he was 26 years old when sentenced. He was 5 feet 5½ inches tall with black hair, blue eyes and a pale complexion. Left England on 27th January 1819. Ship:- the 'Baring' sailed with 300 male convicts on board of which 5 died during the voyage. Arrived on 26th June 1819. Samuel married free settler Mary Ann Crane (daughter of convict John Crane, 'Earl Spencer' 1831 & his wife Susannah) in 1821. Mary Ann died on 16th November 1825 in Sydney. Within the next year, Samuel applied on 9th June 1826 for permission to remarry. He married Emma Walker, (daughter of convict Richard Walker, 'Somersetshire' 1814 & his wife Dorothy), on 20th July 1826 with the Rev William Cowper performing the ceremony. Samuel signed his name while Emma made her mark. Samuel and Emma had two children Charles Henry born 19 Aug 1827 and Georgiana born 6 May 1829, both baptised by the Rev William Cowper. In 1828 the family were living in Princes Street, Sydney and Samuel was working as a shoemaker. Samuel died in Sydney on 20th April 1830 at Sydney age 37. He was buried in the Devonshire Street burial ground with his first wife. A tombstone with the following inscription was erected to their memory Mary Ann wife of Samuel Evans died 16th November 1825 aged 31 years also Samuel Evans died 20th April 1830 aged 37 years
