D. Cook and S. Munden, for breaking into the counting-house of Messrs. Jones, of and stealing thereout various sums of money;... Cheltenham Chronicle, 24 Jan 1828. -------------------------------------------------------- On Tuesday last the undermentioned convicts were removed from our County Gaol to the Justitia Hulk, at Woolwich, preparatory their embarkation for New South Wales, under their sentence of transportation for seven years, viz. Richard Wheeler, William Cratchley, Thomas Brooks, John Cordy, D. Cook, Samuel Munden, Corn. Bendall, James Hobbs, William Shemett, Ed. Molt, Thomas Hughes, P. Shelwood, alias Blanket, John Dart, and Thomas Wilson,— At the same time John Browning was removed to the Penitentiary Millbank. Minden, age 11, breaking into a Counting house, Tried Glos Genl Sessions, 15 Jan 1828, 7 years, Transferred to Euryalus 5 May 1828. --------------------------------------------------- The prison hulk, the Euryalus, an ex-frigate of the Trafalgar fleet, was moored at Chatham. Over the twenty years that this hulk serviced juveniles, about 2,500 boys of fourteen and under passed through. There were also considerable numbers of older boys both in the juvenile hulk and distributed among the other hulks. From the Euryalus, boys were transported both to New South Wales and to Van Diemen’s Land. -------------------------------------------------- Euryalus Hulk Records. HO-9-2 4 page 9/48.
