Family connections for Samuel (Thorley) are: Some amendments added Nov 2025. THORLEY Samuel (Tho/urley) was born about 1768. He was tried w/1other (William (Vale-a different person than the namesake below apparantly) for stealing wooden trunk & contents of Mary (Stevens) at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years for the stealing only, held at London or Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 8 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship ACTIVE. He had a relationship with Agnes (Williams/Parnell her second relationship) whom he later married. He was Free by Servitude by 1799. He was a dealer when he married Agnes (Williams/Shales) on 18 4 1811 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He became a boat builder sailor publican of Black Dog Inn? in Rocks area Sydney & grazier. He was recorded in 1806 with his wife Agnes (Williams) as settler on 100acres at Liberty Plains. He owned land now known as Sydney Markets. He died on 9 8 1821 age53 at Richmond & was buried at St Peters CofE Richmond. She arrived in NSW with her family on 2 6 1797 after a voyage of 10months on GANGES. She left her husband to join with Samuel (Tho/urley). She was recorded in 1806 as Agnes (Williams) with her husband at Liberty Plains. She died on 23 4 1823 age47 at Richmond mother of 9children & was buried, as (Thorley), at St Peters CofE Richmond. Was found "Not Guilty" of the burglary, at the Old Bailey Trial but transported for 7 years. Occupations included Boat Builder, Sealer, Publican of "The Black Dog" in the Rocks area of Sydney, and Grazier. At one time he owned the land now (2020) occupied by the Sydney Markets.

In 1796, Thomas Parnell (Convict, Ganges, 1796) arrived in the colony with his wife Agnes Shales and son Thomas. Agnes very soon thereafter, deserted Thomas and went to live with Samuel Thorley. Their first child was indeed born in 1799. Over the next 18 years they had a family of 8. The eventually married in 1811. Both Agnes and Samuel died prior to the 1828 census.

Samuel Thurley (aged 17) and William Vale (23) were convicted at the Old Bailey, of Stealing a wooden trunk and an extensive list of contents therein. All the property of Mary Stevens, spinster in the house of Charles Dixon. They were charged with breaking and entering and theft but after a number of witnesses had been called, they were eventually found guilty of the lesser charge of stealing and sentenced to transportation for 7 years. Tried before the London Jury before Mr Recorder.
