JAMES SAUNDERS was tried at the County Antrim Assizes held at Carrickfergus in April 1791, ending 19th April, before the Hon Baron Power. He was found guilty of stealing linen and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Freemans Journal Saturday 23 April 1791 page 4 “Carrickfergus Assizes "James Saunders for feloniously taking 50 yards of linen-cloth from James Haddock of Randallstown: to be transported for seven years.” The indent of the Boddingtons, prepared before sailing in February 1793, stated Saunders to be aged 30 years. He was therefore born about 1762.
