Joseph was 22 years old when transported for ‘Stealing 10 sheep, from his uncle, Isaac Saunders’. His native place was Chesham, Bucks. Joseph said ‘I kept company with Sarah Brandon two years but had not then married' seems he had 1 child. m. Elizabeth 5 brothers: William, Thomas, Henry, James, Joshua Sisters: Elizabeth, Fanny, Sarah np. Joseph was listed a a Labourer, he was also a ‘Tallow Chandler’ and could make candles, 5’ 10” tall, dark complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers and eyebrows, blue eyes, squints, scar on knuckle forefinger of left hand, scar on upper lip, scar under chin. Protestant, could read and write, and was single. 5/8/1845: Emerged from Gang. 22/4/1851: TOL 20/2/1852: Married Ellen Kent (Blackfriar) at St Johns church Launceston. They had 15 children. 27/3/1853: TOL revoked – absent from muster. 14/9/1852: Recommended for a CP 4/10/1853: TOL restored. C1857 they moved to Victoria and lived at Avoca. 1899: Joseph died in Avoca, Victoria, Australia. Ellen died in 1909 in Prahran, Victoria, aged 79 years.
