Scarnell Daniel, No. 33-594, 16, Forth, City Cork, Labourer, 4 feet 6, hazel eyes, light brown hair, ruddy freckled comp. cross, sun, moon, DS and other marks on tight arm, flower pot on left, ring on second finger of right hand, from Hyde Park Barracks, since 1st Instant. Second time of absconding. NSW Govt Gazette, 11 Dec 1833.

Moreton Bay Convict Register. Daniel Scannell, per Forth 1, tried, City Cork, Summer 1829, Larceny, 7 years. Labourer. Colonial Conviction: Gen Sess. Hyde Pk Barrks, 15 Nov 1830, Entering a shop and stealing numerous articles of wearing apparel, 3 years. To Norfolk Island. Run 23 April 1833. Description : Daniel Scannell, Native place, Cork, age 13, 4 ft 7 in; fair freckled comp, brown hair, hazle eyes, catholic.




Listed as "Scamell" on entry records. Daniel Scamell was 13 years old on arrival in NSW - he was transported for 'stealing privately wearing apparel'. he was 4'6" tall. 3/11/1830: Absconded from Cater's Barracks and stole articles of wearing apparel from a shop in Hunter Street. Daniel was held on the Phoenix Hulk until sent to Moreton Bay on 1/1/1831 per the 'Governor Phillip'. Daniel was then described as being 5'2" tall, fair freckled complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes. Back to Sydney and assigned to a free settler named Davis at Punch Bowl Road. 1835: Formed a Highway Robbery gang with William Carter, John Barlow and James Bryant. 1/5/1835: Robbed Captain Clarke and Mr. Manning on the Parramatta Road, taking money and watches. 9/5/1835: Sentenced to Death. 26/5/1835: Daniel was executed. He was 18 years old.




In 1830 he was apprehended after running away fron Carter's Barracks. In May 1835 he was executed by hanging having been found guilty of Highway Robbery.
