John Scarr was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

John Scarr, Charles White, and Matthew Bettsworth, charged with having burglariously and feloniously broken open and entered the dwelling house of John Scott, at Woolwich and stealing three silver table spoons, two silver tea spoons, a pair silver tea tongs, and ? silver coin of this realm, his Property. Kentish Weekly Post, 3 Aug 1813. (Matthew Bettsworth was found not guilty. The other two said he had nothing to do with it, and Bettsworth said he was not connected. This report gives their ages: John Scarr, 18 and Charles White, 17. - Newspaper report in The Kentish Gazette, 24 Aug 1813.) On Saturday morning the following were conducted from Maidstone gaol, under a proper escort, to on board the Zealand Hulk, at Sheerness, viz.-—-... John Scarr, and Charles White to be transported for life. Kentish Gazette, 7 Sep 1813.
