Eliza Scholefield was convicted at Nottingham on 31 Dec 1846 for stealing a silk handkerchief. Previous convictions and had been in prison before. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania)per the 'Asia' arriving 21 July 1847. Aged 20yrs; housemaid; Protestant. Native Place: Hull, England. Mother: Sarah Brothers: William, James, George, John & Charles Sisters: Bessy, Anne, Sarah, Numerous assignments of service work in Colony and misconduct. Time also spent at the Female House of Correction. Application for permission to marry: 21 Aug 1848 to William Ransom (per 'John Barry). Application for permission to marry: 31 Dec 1849 to Henry Hill (per 'Susan'). Application for permission to marry: 25 June 1850 to Thomas ROGERS (per 'Lord Petre'). Approved. Marriage: 15 July 1850 at St. Joseph's Church, Launceston. Eliza aged 22yrs; passholder; spinster. Thomas aged 26yrs; Ticket of Leave; bachelor. Departure from VDL: Eliza Schoefield (per 'Asia')& Thomas Rogers (per 'Lord Petre') - to Victoria per the 'Clarence' 15 March 1854. (ref. POL220/1/3)
