Janet SCRIMGEOUR was convicted at Perth, Scotland on 30 April 1841 for theft - stealing from the person, a habitual offender. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Garland Grove' arriving 10 Oct 1841. Ship surgeon's report: "quiet. single woman". Aged 25 yrs. Native place of birth: Perth, Scotland. Assignments of work service in the Colony of VDL. Several records of misconduct. 9 Sept 1842: Application for permission to marry - Janet Scrimgeour (Garland Grove) to Christopher Hislop (Elphinstone). Approved.(ref. 52/1/2 pg 081) 17 Oct 1842: Marriage - Janet SCRIVENGER (misrecorded, should be SCRIMGEOUR), aged 26yrs, convict to Christopher HISLOP, aged 33yrs, Ticket of Leave. At the Parish Church of Evandale, Launceston District. (ref. 37/1/2 no. 1655) 4 June 1852: Departed VDL from Launceston per the ship 'Waratah' for Melbourne, Victoria. Janet SCRYGENOUR (should be SCRIMGEOUR) to Colony per 'Garland Grove'. Free by Servitude. (ref. 220/1/2 pg 51)
