Old Bailey: JOSHUA SEABURN. Theft: grand larceny. 18th February 1824 Verdict Guilty > with recommendation Sentence Corporal > whipping JOSHUA SEABURN was indicted for stealing, on the 4th of February, a pair of shoes, value 3 s., the goods of William John Huetson. JOHN LOWGER. I am a shopman to William John Huetson, who lives in Kingsland-road. On the 4th of February, I was standing in the shop, and by the reflection of the looking-glass, saw the prisoner cut a pair of shoes down from the door, and ran away - I followed, and found the boots under his coat - he said his father had turned him out of doors, and he had no victuals. (Property produced and sworn to.) GUILTY. Aged 16. Recommended to Mercy . - Whipped and Discharged. Old Bailey: JOSHUA SEABURN. Theft: grand larceny. 17th February 1825 Sentence Transportation JOSHUA SEABURN was indicted for stealing, on the 27th of January, two crowns, four half-crowns, a shilling, and a sixpence, the monies of George Johnson. GEORGE JOHNSON. I am a grocer. I was at the Basing-house, which is about two hundred yards from my house, on the evening of the 27th of January, and was fetched home, and found the prisoner in custody - I said, "Have you been robbing me?" he said, "If you will lend me a candle I will find it." I gave him a candle, and he went round behind the casks, and found nothing. I then told the officer to take him away. There was no money found in the shop at that time. I had put 24 s. behind my counter on the day before, and had seen it safe at three o'clock that day. JANE LESLIE. I am in Mr. Johnson's service. I was in the parlour at work on the 27th of January, about half-past eight o'clock, I saw the prisoner behind the counter - I opened the door, and went into the shop; I took him behind the counter, on his hands and knees. I called out, and my mistress came to my assistance. The officer was fetched; I held him till the officer came: he threw some money towards the door before the officer came. I found half-a-crown on the sill. GEORGE SMITH. I am an headborough. I went to the shop in consequence of a little child coming to me. I found Leslie and Mr. Johnson holding the prisoner - I took him. Leslie looked down, and took up half-a-crown, which she gave me. I said to the prisoner, "George, this is a bad thing you have been doing;" he said, "Oh! you will find the money;" he then asked for a light, which he had, and looked round for it, but could not find it. Some person brought in some silver while we were in the shop. Prisoner's Defence. I was passing by the door - a boy took off my cap, and threw it behind the counter - I went to get it, and knocked the money down - the young woman came out, and said I was stealing it. GUILTY. Aged 15. Transported for Seven Years. Joshua Seaburn was listed as 19 years old on arrival in VDL. Listed as born 1803 on the first charge, and 1810 the following year on the second charge. Place of Birth: Kingsland Road, London. Joshua was 5'2" tall, light brown hair, hazel eyes, mole on right arm, deeply pockpitted. Father and mother at native place - Father a rope line and twine maker. 27/3/1829 - Colonial sentence, 7 years. 31/10/1829 Hobart Town Courier: Joshua Seaburn, Edward Thomas and Thomas Flint, for stealing in dwelling houses, 7 years. 31/2/1830: Transported to Macquarie Harbour. 29/10/1831: Apprehended after absconding. 3012/1831: Public Works - Feloniously aiding and abetting and comforting John Gow in assaulting and shooting at and woulding John Corrigan a soldier of H.M 63rd Regiment of the 4th day of Sept. last at a place near the North Beach, Committed for trial. 23/6/1832: Sent to Norfolk Island per 'Ann Jamieson'. 6/4/1833 - Burial date, Convict Death Register - Joshua died at Norfolk Island. He was 22 years old.
