Family connections for Daniel (Search) are: SEARCH Daniel (Search) was born about 1801 & became a carpenter. He was tried for stealing a basket, w/2others on 31 12 1818, of William (Grosse) at Old Bailey on 13 1 1819, sentenced to 7years, held at London Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 5 2 1820 after a voyage of 8months on ATLAS; he was Protestant. He was Free by Servitude by 1823, was issued his Ticket of Leave in 1824 in Sydney & his Certificate of Leave on 19 1 1826. He married Mary Ann (Freebody) on 9 1 1826 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He was recorded in 1826 as a farmer. In 1828 he is recorded at Bathurst St Sydney with his family. He is recorded in 1830 as a carpenter. In 1841 he is recorded as living at Macquarie St Windsor. He died in 1852 age52 at Sydney. Some details taken from this Website. Mary Ann (Freebody) was born on 24 12 1800 at Cornwallis Windsor & baptised on 11 8 1805 age about5 in group ceremony at St Johns CofE Parramatta. Offence: Theft > grand larceny Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Transportation DANIEL SEARCH was indicted for stealing, on the 31st of December, one basket, value 3 s., the property of William Grosse. WILLIAM GROSSE . I am a basket-make , and live in High Holborn. On the 31st of December, about eight o'clock at night, I missed a basket which hung on a string inside my door. JOHN GAY On the 31st of December, about eight o'clock at night, I was in company with Owen and Thompson, going to Oxford-street, Thompson pointed the prisoner out with two others; I followed him, saw him attempt several gentlemens' pockets, and try to take things from shop doors, but could not. They went to the corner of Oxford-street, then turned down Holborn again. One of them went away with a girl. The prisoner and the other went to the prosecutor's, and attempted four times to take a basket. I saw the prisoner take out a penknife, and cut a string which fastened the basket to a nail, then take it off the nail, and give it to the other - both crossed the road; Owen and I secured the prisoner - the other ran away, and threw the basket down. WILLIAM OWEN. I saw the prisoner and two others at the corner of Field-lane; they attempted several shops and gentlemens' pockets; the prisoner cut the basket from the door, and gave it to the other. Gay went after him, and took him; some of them ran across, and knocked me down. I had watched them for two hours and a half. THOMAS THOMPSON . I was present, and saw the prisoner with two others; I concealed myself, as they knew me. (Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defence. I had no knife. GUILTY . Aged 17. Transported for Seven Years. 1824: TOL Sydney 19/1/1826: COF 1826: Married Mary Ann Freebody (daughter of Simon Freebody Neptune, Scarborough and Surprize, 1789 and Mary Wells Royal Admiral, 1792.) at Windsor - they had 5 children. 1828 Census: Search, Daniel, 27, free by servitude, Atlas, 1819, 7 years, Protestant, carpenter, Bathurst Street Sydney Search, Mary Ann, 21, born in the colony Search, Sarah, 4, born in the colony Search, Mary Ann, 2m 1841 Census: Macquarie Street, Windsor, Parish St Matthew, County Cumberland, District Windsor. 1852: Daniel died at Sydney, aged 52.
