Family connections for Thomas (Seeney) are: SEENEY Thomas (Seeney) was born in 1799 & became a blacksmith. He was tried w/22others for coining (forging notes) at Middlesex Gaol Delivery on 9 9 1818, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1819 after a voyage of 6months on BARING; he was recorded on board as Thomas (Siney) sufferring from rheumatism on board & was 5'5" ruddy complexion black hair hazel eyes. He was known as (Siney) on board & used the name (Ceeney) in Australia. He, as Thomas (Ceeney), married Elizabeth (Prentice) on 26 12 1826 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1827 & had his Ticket of Leave by 1828 when he is recorded as working as a blacksmith in Cleveland St Sydney. He died on 25 9 1879 age80 at Murrumbah & was buried at Young cemetery. ADM 101/7/41818-1820 Medical Journal of the Baring convict ship sailing to New South Wales, covering the dates 31 October 1818 to July 1820, by David Reid, Surgeon. Sea victualling between 29 November 1818 and 3 July 1819. The journal's inside cover states it covers up to July 1820, its last entry is for June 1819. Folios 1-2: Thomas Siney, convict, aged 19; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Taken ill, 17 December 1818. Discharged 15 January 1819.

In the colony, Thomas married Elizabeth Prentice, December 26th 1826 at St Philips, Sydney. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Prentice (Convict, Scarborough, 1790) and Elizabeth Wicker (Convict, Experiment, 1804). Thomas and Elizabeth had 8 children, between 1827 and 1845. George 1827, Elizabeth 1830, Sarah 1833, Ambrose 1836, William 1838, John 1840, Thomas 1842 and Mary Ann 1845.




Thomas Ceeney died on 25/09/1879 in the Murrumbah District, NSW. Death Certificate number 9933/1879 buried at Young Cemetery.




JANE WILLIAMS, MARY PENDLETON, WILLIAM WILKS, MARIA WILKS. WILLIAM CHALKER, CHARLES HANSCOMBE, JOHN ANDERSON, SARAH IRELAND, HANNAH GILBERT, TIMOTHY LANE, JAMES YEOELL, JAMES DALAS, JOHN DUNN, JOHN WATSON, BENJAMIN TATHAN WILLIS, THOMAS OWEN, HENRY WAY, JOSEPH TURNER, THOMAS SEENEY, WILLIAM QUIN, JAMES WOOLE, EDWARD NEW, and JOSEPH LONGWOOD, were severally and separately indicted for feloniously and unlawfully having in their custody and possession forged bank notes, they well knowing them to be forged. To which indictments they severally pleaded GUILTY. Transported for Fourteen Years . Second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Common Sergeant. Thomas Ceeney was originally a Blacksmith in London, England, he was sentenced at Middlesex on 9 Sep 1818 for "Having forged banknotes". He was at that time 21 yrs old, 5ft 5", black hair, hazel eyes and a ruddy complexion. Thomas arrived in Australia on "Baring (2)" on 26 Jun 1819. He received ticket of leave on 6 Apr 1826.




After arriving in Australia, surname spelling changed to "Ceeney".
