Taunton. Wednesday April 23. The parish of Middle Chinnock, and adjacent neighbourhood, have long been infested with a gang of depredators; and great quantities of potatoes, cider, wood, and other articles had been stolen front different persons without any discovery of the thieves, until lately; when the house of Mary Holland was searched. and a large quantity of stolen property found, which has since been identified. Those who made the search were surprised at also finding the entrails of no less than five sheep: and further enquiries led to the apprehension of Joseph Furzer, Charles Meecham, Joseph Meecham, Charles Selway, and Alfred Holland, who have been committed for trial the next Quarter Sessions. Dorset County Chronicle, 24 April 1845. Somerset Quarter Sessions. Ten Years: Joseph Meechem, Charles Selway, Charles Meechem, and Joseph Furzer, for stealing ewe sheep, the property of Edward Budge.
