(ref. 35/1/5 no. 248 Hobart district) CHILD: George Bramwell SEWELL born 8 Dec 1853 at Hobart. Father - John Sewell, butcher. Mother - Agnes Sewell formerly MacKenzie. (ref. 33.1.5 no. 481) Death of baby George on 23 Jan 1854 at Hobart. Aged 7 months, butcher’s child. Cause - convulsions. Mother - Agnes Mack, New Town, Hobart. (ref. 35.1.4 no. 797)

John SEWELL was convicted at Essex, England on 15 July 1839 for burglary. Life sentence. Transported to New South Wales, Australia per the ship "Woodbridge" 1840. Transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) from Norfolk Island in 1844 per the ship "Maitland". 1844: labourer; aged 24 yrs; single man; Protestant; 5'3 1/2" height; sallow complexion; black hair; brown eyes. Native place of birth: Essex, England. Father: Thomas (ref. Convict Indent record) Mother: Mary Brother: Thomas Brother: James - at Whitechapel, London. VDL: assigned to work service several notes of misconduct 10 July 1849: Ticket of Leave granted. 14 Dec 1852: Conditional Pardon approved.
