Per "Mangles", 1822. 1822 Nov On list of convicts landed from the "Mangles" & forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6009; 4/3506 p.430) 1824 Nov 2 Servant to Daniel Driscol of Airds. Petition for free passage for his wife, Catherine Burke, & family (Fiche 3287; 4/1112.1A pp.325-6) ------------------------------------------------- Petition of Thomas Shanahan, Crown Prisoner. Praying for a free passage to this Colony for his family. 2 Nov 1824., To the Governor. Thomas Shanahan, a prisoner of the Crown who came to this Colony per ship Mangles in the year 1822, under sentence of transportation for fourteen years. Humbly sheweth that Petitioner left a wife and three children behind him in Ireland whose sole means of support were his Industry. That Petitioner could support them in this Colony. Therefore humbly prays your Excellency to take their destitute condition into your humane consideration and procure from the Government a passage for them to this Colony and as in duty bound Petitioner will ever pray. Wife’s name, Catherine Shanahan, alias Burke, place of residence County Tipperary, parish of Cullin in the Towns Land of Longstone. To prove Petitioner’s marriage he begs leave to refer to Mr Kendall O’Brian, Mercht. of the parish aforesaid and Revd. W. Hewitt of the town and parish of Tipperary who married the Petitioner. The Petitioner , who has been my servant since he landed in theColony, I have ever found to be an honest, sober and industrious person, on which account I beg leave to recommend him to the consideration of His Excellency the Governor.
