The Convict Indentures state that Rachel Shannon was 31 years old. She could read and write; religion Protestant; status single and a native of County Cork. She was a needle woman. Rachel was convicted of an attempt to poison at County Cork the Spring Assizes 1837 and sentenced to life. She had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 9 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes blue. Transport number 128. Prisoner number 127-38. Application to marry granted on 26 October 1841 to William Robinson, aged 29, transported on Mary (4) for seven years. He was free at time of application. Rachel was 34 years old and status was bond. Application submitted by Rev W. Stack, Maitland, NSW.
