Thomas's occupation was a 'Lamp lighter/labourer'. 22/8/1838: Married Sarah Monaghan - Sarah was born in the Colony, 1805-1854. They had 4 children all born between 1830 and 1835. Thomas and Sarah married in the Catholic Church, which is probably why the late marriage date - they probably waited to marry in the Catholic faith. At the birth of his children Thomas was listed as a farmer. 1842-48: Thomas resided in the Avoca area which was known as Camp Hill, in the Fingal Valley and was employed by Simeon Lord Jnr. Have not found a COF date. 10/6/1883: Thomas died aged 83 of Senilis at the New Town Pauper Establishment - listed as a labourer.




Thomas SHARKEY was convicted at Dublin Nov 1818. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to New South Wales, Australia per the 'Bencoolen' then transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Admiral Cockburn' arriving Sept 1819. Single man; aged 18yrs; lamp lighter; 5'4 1/4"; dark eyes; brown hair; fair ruddy complexion. Native place - Dublin, Ireland.
