Convict Notes

On Wednesday last a man named Edward Sharp, belonging to the parish of Risby, was apprehended at Saxham White Horse, who appears to have been carrying on the trade of sheep-stealing in the most wholesale and barefaced manner. He had on that and previous market-days disposed of thirty-four ewe hoggetts stolen from the fold of the Earl of Bristol at Saxham, and on the day after his commitment for this offence, it was discovered that he had also sold forty-seven, which had been stolen from the fold of R. Gurney, Esq. at Higham, only the night before. The latter parcel were purchased by a jobber at 20s. a head, who sold them again at 23s. 6d. before he paid the prisoner. Bury and Norwich Post, 5 May 1824. PRISONERS. Edward Sharpe, for stealing 34 sheep from the parish of Icklingham, the property of the Right Hon. Fred. Wm. Earl of Bristol ; (also indicted, but not tried, for stealing 47 sheep, the property of Joseph Gurney, Esq. at Gazely) ; Bury and Norwich Post, 11 Aug 1824. On Monday last Edward Sharpe, John Chenery, Lovet James Howard, John Wanham, and William Nicholls, were removed from our gaol, to be put on-board the Leviathan Hulk at Portsmouth, in order to be transported for life; Bury and Norwich Post, 8 Sep 1824.
