John Shaughnessy was convicted at CCC, London on 3 Feb 1840 for stealing a pair of boots. 7yr sentence. Sent to Parkhurst Prison for Boys on Isle of Wight - there for 4yrs before being transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Single; aged 13yrs; bricklayer or shoemaker; Protestant; can read and write. Native place - Marylebone, London. Probation period expired 14 July 1846. 1846: at New Town Farm (nr Hobart) Ticket of Leave 21 July 1846 30 Oct 1846: steal boots and other articles. 6mths imprisonment with hard labour. Ticket of Leave revoked 24 Nov 1846 Certificate of Freedom 14 Aug 1847 at Salt Water River.
