Convict Notes

Elizabeth was a widow from Liverpool. Along with Mary Williams, they had stolen from John Golding. Mary would remain at Lancaster Castle and was eventually pardoned. Within eight months of arrival, Elizabeth, aged 41 had married Rochdale man James Davenport (ship- Ocean) at St John's, Parramatta; signing her own name on the register. The year following arrival, Elizabeth was in the female factory. By 1821, Elizabeth was free and in 1823, swore an affidavit in court as she had lost her certificate the previous year. In 1825, she was recorded in the muster as a housekeeper at Sydney and her husband who was still under sentence was assigned to her. Elizabeth died age 52, in September 1828 at the Benevolent Asylum in Sydney.
