Janet Shaw was described as the wife of Henry Burns. THE BURGLARY AT MR. SEAMAN'S. Last Saturday week, as we have announced, the premises in the occupation of the Rev. Mr. Seaman at New Town, were burglariously entered and a quantity of property stolen. Last evening the Superintendent, Mr. Hamilton, accompanied by Detectives M'Guire, Vickers, and Morley, proceeded to a house in the Cascade Road and apprehended a man named Henry Burns and his wife as having been implicated in the burglary. A considerable portion of the stolen property was found in their possession. Burns was armed with a double-barrelled pistol, loaded and capped, and had besides a large quantity of slugs and other ammunition. They then proceeded, to the residence of a man named Holebrook, in the same locality, and instituted a strict search, which resulted in the discovery of the remaining portion of the stolen property. Burns is believed to have been concerned with M'Laughlin in the robbery at Mr. Baynton's. The prisoners will be brought up at the Police Office this morning. Hobart Town Daily Mercury, 10 June 1859. Henry Burns and Richard Holbrook were charged with having committed a burglary in the dwelling house of the Rev. j.B Seaman of New Town, and stealing various articles, his property. A second count charged them with receiving. In this case Janet Shaw had been apprehended but had made her escape from gaol, and in consequence the Solicitor General entered nolle prosequi as she was concerned. … The Jury returned a verdict of not guilty against both the prisoners, and they were discharged. Hobart Town Daily Mercury, 27 July 1859.
