Death was stated as 2012 incorrectly He died In Newcastle Hospital NSW in 22/9/1841 and burried in Christ Church Cathedral Grounds.
John was still a youth when he was whipped for stealing 8 shillings worth of halfpence the property of Mr Thomas HILTON and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Little is known of John's time in the Colony after his arrival on the 5th October 1816. On the 11th October John was forwarded to Windsor for distribution, On the 20th December 1832 he married a convict lady - Lydia MATTHEWS (b.1811 in Madron, Cornwell) in the parish of Maitland. They had 4 children - Rachel Mary Ann, b.24/02/1833; Lydia, b.08/04/1834; Anne, b.03/09/1837 and John, b.31/05/1839. John died on the 22nd September, 1841 in Newcastle Hospital. His occupation was listed on his death certificate as "Free Paurer". He was buried in the Parish Christ Church, Newcastle on the 24/09/1841 in a paurer's grave. The minister who officated at his burial was the same person who married Lydia and John - Rev. C.Pleydell N WILTON.
