James Sheels was tried and convicted at Sydney on 21/02/1834 for the manslaughter of John Hughes who was killed at the spinning wheel, stated it was a general row. Widower, 3 children. Transported to Van Diemens Land on the 'Admiral Gifford', arriving 30/05/1834. 19/11/1834: Groom, Govt. House - gross insolence to W. Johnson. 24 lashes. Died H.M. Colonial Hospital Hobart 20/02/1835.
