Family connections for Robert (Sherringham) are: Some amendments added Aug 2025. SHERRINGHAM Robert (Sherringham) was born on 15 4 1781. He was tried for stealing shoes from Edmund (Sinclair) at Norfolk Assizes on 15 3 1800, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 12 1801 after a voyage of 7.5months on Fleet ship MINORCA. He was Free by Servitude by 1806 & had been issued his Certificate of Emancipation in 1811 when he married Elizabeth (Fowles-Davis her first marriage) on 15 7 1811 at St Mathews CofE Windsor. He employed convict Andrew (Mahon) at Evan. He was recorded in 1826 as a shoemaker, in 1828 with his family as farmer with 17acres at Evan & in 1828 & 1829 as a shoemaker. His wife left him in 1830s. He died on 22 2 1861 age79. [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Fowles-Davis) was born on 20 8 1786. She arrived in NSW with her mother on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship MARY ANN. She was baptised, as (Davis?), on 26 6 1798 age11 w/halfbrother Jacob (Russell) at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She was recorded in 1828 with her family at Evan. She associated secondly with Andrew (Mahon), produced 6children & later married him on 10 1 1862 at Windsor. She died on 15 6 1878 age91 mother of 18children. Details of Elizabeth (Fowles-Davis)s family are given in entry for Eleanor(Davis MARY ANN 1791) on this Website. Robert (Sherringham) & Elizabeth (Fowles-Davis) produced 12children: 1.Elizabeth (Sherringham) was born on 18 9 1813 & baptised on 17 7 1814 at Christ Church Castlereagh. She was recorded in 1828 with her parents at Evan. She married at age16 William (Colle/iss) on 9 3 1829 at Christ Church Castlereagh. She died on 9 9 1883 age70-. ..William (Colle/iss) was born on 21 8 1805 & baptised on 8 3 1824 age18 at Christ Church Castlereagh. He was recorded in 1828 as farmer at Evan. He died on 24 10 1872 age67. Robert was convicted of stealing 2 pairs of shoes valued at 5 shillings, 2 half boots valued 12 shillings & some tools, that were the property of Edmund Sinclair. On the 15th of March, 1800, he was sentenced to 7 years transportation & left England on the 21st of June, 1801. He was freed by servitude at the end of 1806 & received a certificate of Emancipation in 1811.

Sometime before 1828, Robert was assigned a convict worker Andrew Mahon (Convict, Martha, 1818). He also appears in the 1828 census: Page 254… [Ref M1106] McMahon, Andrew, 26, GS (no details of ship), Labourer to R. Sherringham, at Evan. Sometime in the mid-1830's the relationship between Elizabeth and Robert broke down and she commenced living with Andrew Mahon. Elizabeth and Andrew had 6 children between 1830 and 1845. They did eventually marry in October 1862 at Windsor. (Robert, her estranged husband, having died in 1861).

In the colony, Robert married Elizabeth Davis, July 15th 1811 at St Matthews, Windsor. Elizabeth was born in the colony, the daughter of Jacob Russell (Convict, Salamander, 1791) and Eleanor Davis (Convict, Mary Ann, 1791). In the period to 1834, the couple had 12 children. The family can be located in the 1828 census: Page 336... [Ref S0703] Sherringham, Robt. 43, free by servitude, Minerva?, 7 years, farmer, Evan, 17 acres, 17 acres cleared and cultivated, 4 horses, 16 horned cattle.
