1832: ON arrival in VDL, listed as 18 years old, single and a labourer. His Conduct Report says during the voyage he was involved in "mutinous assembly with 21 others and declaring his resolution to abstain from labour; expressed contrition". He was reprimanded. 1841, 25 October: Following numerous instances of absenteeism and refusals to work, he was sent to Port Arthur. 1843, 21 April: Charged for violent assault of his overseer on the Picton Road Party, Thomas Chadwick, "with intent to do him some grievous bodily harm". Committed for trial; sentenced to 2 years' hard labour in chains, recommended he be sent to Port Arthur. 1845, 6 October: Felony - stealing/larceny under 5 pounds - committed for trial; sentenced to 18 months' hard labour in chains, recommended he be sent to Port Arthur. 1848, 27 November: Petition for remission of his sentence refused. 1849, 13 March: Absconded. 1831, 24 October: Convicted at Michaelmas Sessions, Lancashire, for housebreaking. Charles Sherry had a previous conviction for stealing a cheese, and given 2 months' jail (see England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892). 1831, 17 November: Admitted to the prison hulk Cumberland at Chatham, and from there he was sent on 14 February 1832 for transportation. Listed as 16 years old (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849).
