Thomas SHIELS was convicted at Cavan, Ireland on 26 Feb 1847 for issuing a threatening notice to entice a man to quit. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Pestonjee Bomanjee' arriving 2 Jan 1849. Single man; aged 23yrs; labourer; 5'3 1/4"; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native place of birth: Co. Cavan, Ireland. No information recorded on his sheet as to Station Gang or assignments. 18 Sept 1852: Absconded.
