Bunker, at George's River, has lately absconded therefrom. — This is therefore to require, that no Person receive him into their Employ ; or in any wise to encourage his absence on pain of prosecution. Family connections for James (Sidebottom) are: Some amendments added Jul 2025. SIDEBOTTOM John (Smith) was born about 1789, possibly as James (Sidebottom) & later referred to as Gentleman (Smith). He was tried as James (Sidebottom) for felony at Manchester Lancaster Quarter SeSsions on 11 10 1809, sentenced to 7years, held on hulks COROMANDEL PERSEUS LAUREL at Portsmouth from 8 12 1809 & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 12 1810 after a voyage of 5months on INDIAN. He escaped to England. He was tried a second time at Leicester boro' Quarter Sessions in 1813, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 2 1814 after a voyage of 6months on GENERAL HEWITT. He served his time at Newcastle where he became successful farmer/gentleman. He married Mary (Brian on 11 7 1814 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. From about 1817 to 1824 he was Chief Constable at Newcastle. On 13 9 1819 he received a town lease & was issued a Conditional Pardon. He was Free by Servitude by 1822. He became landowner at Wallis Plains & dealer. He was recorded in 1826 as a shopkeeper & 1830 as general dealer. He died in 1870 age81. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary (Brian) was born on 7/17 4 1792 at Sydney Cove & baptised on 15 7 1792 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. When her mother left in about 1799 she remained with her father & is recorded with him in 1800 & perhaps 1802. She married firstly at age15 William Phillip (Furber his second marriage) on 4/11 1 1808 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 1child. She died in 1867 age75 mother of at least 10children.
