Tried: Perth, 21 Apr 1824, Transportation - 14 years, prior whipping. Per Ship: Royal Charlotte 18 November 1824 New South Wales. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Circuit Court of Justiciary, Perth.—Robert Sim was indicted for attempting to murder Agnes Mill. It was stated, that upon Sunday, the 21st of Dec. last, the prisoner, within a plantation in the parish of Inveskeiller, Forfair, did, with a razor, inflict a deep wound on the throat of the said Agnes, and did throw her upon the ground, and attempted to pour a quantity of vitriol upon her face and breast, whereby she was severely burnt, and did kick and beat her, and did drag her along the ground until she became insensible. The prisoner pleaded guilty to these charges, and he was sentenced to be transported for fourteen years, and to be publicly whipped through the streets Arbroath, on the 8 of May next. Sussex Advertiser, 3 May 1824. …. [It was formerly mentioned that the unfortunate girl was pregnant by the prisoner.] On being asked what he had to say to the charge, he replied Guilty, my Lord I am sorry for it, and refer myself to the mercy of your Lordship. Lord Pitmitlly sentenced the prisoner to transportation beyond seas for 14 years; and to be publicly whipt through the streets of Arbroath on the 8th May next. Aberdeen Press. 5 May 1824.
