William died before the journey began. He was taken off at Deal for burial. Birth date is taken from the entry on the Sick List. Sick List of the Mary Ann 1835: Folio 12: case no 4, William Simpkins, aged 27, convict; taken ill at Sheerness; sick or hurt, phthisis pulmoralis, of delicate habit and scrophulous disposition had been unwell before embarkation, complains of great weakness, short dry cough and difficulty in breathing more after any exertion; put on sick list 6 July 1835, died 13 July 1835 about 6 am.
