Family connections for Joseph (Chipman) are: CHIPMAN Joseph (Simmons) was tried at Bedford Assizes Bedfordshire, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 8 1802 after a voyage of 7.5months on COROMANDEL.>>> [These details taken from this Website] >>>Joseph (Simmons) may be the person recorded in Australia as Joseph Simmonds (Chipman), Joseph (Simmonds-Chipman) & (aka Simmonds). He was born about 1774. He was snnt to Norfolk Island. He left Norfolk Island to Derwent as part of the first evacuation of Norfolk Island on CITY OF EDINBURGH with his family, arriving on 3 10 1808-to Clarence Plains/Roaches Bay. He was Free by Servitude by 1811. He died on 10 3 1816 age42 & was buried at St Davids CofE Hobart. >>>Joseph Simmonds (Chipman) had a relationship with Catherine (Byrne). Catherine (Byrne) arrived in NSW as a convict pn 14 12 1801 after a voyage of 6.5months on Fleet ship NILE. She was sent to Norfolk Island, perhaps on SUGAR CANE. She, as (Burn), is recorded as on stores in February 1805 on Norfolk Island. She left Norfolk Island to Derwent as part of the first evacuation of Norfolk Island on CITY OF EDINBURGH with her family, arriving on 3 10 1808-to Clarence Plains/Roaches Bay. She was Free by Servitude by 1811. [a Catherine (Byrne/Burn) is recorded as dying on 6 8 1815 age41 (therefore born about 1774; & a Catherine (Chipman) is recorded with 2children, all off stores, in Hobart town on 2 10 1818] Catherine (Byrne) does not have an entry on this Website as yet-added by me; although a Mary (Byrne) is. Joseph Simmonds (Chipman) & Catherine (Byrne/Burn) produced maybe 7children: mostly boys 1.Joseph (Chipman) was born on 21 2/3 1803 & baptised on 24 7 1803 on Norfolk Island. He is recorded age<2yrs on stores on Norfolk Island in February 1805. He was listed with 45.5acres (strange, but perhaps in his name for legal reasons? the convict could not own property?) & went to Derwent as part of the first evacuation of Norfolk Island (for which volunteers apparantly had been called with appropriate compensation offerred & for which he may have tried to decline as some successful farmers were asked to stay) on CITY OF EDINBURGH, arriving on 3 10 1808-but not listed i Ref:'People...'-to Clarence Plains/Roaches Bay. He died 18 10 1881 age78. ..Noted a Joseph (Chipman), born in Port Jackson), is recorded as off stores in Hobart town on 2 10 1818. .. 2.John (Chipman) was born in 1806 on Norfolk Island. He married Elizabeth (Grace-named as Elizabeth (Free) in Ref:'Forgotten...')-on 16 3 1829. He died on 14 1 1831 age about25 at Clarence Plains & was buried at St Matthews Rokeby. ..Elizabeth (Grace later Smith) was born in 1792 on Norfolk Island. She is recorded in February 1805 & 1807 with her mother on 50acres on Norfolk Island. She was taken by her mother to Clarence Plains near Launceston sometime after 1819.
