My name is David Spencer SIMS , and I am a direct descendant of John Sims. John SIMS was originally sentenced to DEATH later commuted to transportation. His Father and Brother were sent to Sydney.. John SIMS left a pregnant wife and daughter in England at the Village of ST Mary Bourne in Hampshire...These men were indeed involved in the so called Swing Riots, they were all impoverished and exploited farm workers who were rioting against the injustice of the system. John never returned to the UK and died in Tasmania. His son was born in St Mary Bourne UK, and never knew his father and at the age of 19 emigrated to New York State USA, later to fight in the American civil war, and further marry and have several children. He lived to a ripe old age.
John was my 4 th greatgrandfathe's nephew. Johns father William and his brother Daniel were mixed up in the ''swing riots''. William went back to uk.Daniel died in NSW and John died in Tasmania
