1822 . Petition for mitigation of sentence To The Governor Sir Thomas Brisbane, ….. Sheweth That your Excellency Humble Petitioner John Skey having served in his Majesty’s Navy fourteen years on Board of the General (?) St George, the Thelise? Frigate in wich we had the Honour of th..ing Your Excellency to the West Indies and since had the misfortune of being convicted at Winchester Assizes for the term of seven years in the year of one thousand Eight hundred and sixteen and came to this Colony in the Shipley, Mr Moncrief Master. Your Excellency humble petitioner has served Mr John Jackson, Settler of the Airds for the space of five years with Honesty and Industry therefore your Excellency Humble petitioner hopes you will be graciously pleased to grant him some mitigation of sentence that your Excellency may seem meet. I shall for ever be bound to pray, John Skey. John Jackson Settler. I recommend the petitioner John Skey for his behaviour and Honesty for five years servitude to me as my Government man and believe him worthy of Attention.
