Isle of Man Gaol Delivery.  A Court of General Gaol Delivery was held at Castle Rushen on the 21st April,  … The prisoners for trial were, Thos. Christian, Thos. Quine, Wm. Sheealy, and Wm. Kelly. … Thomas Quine, aged 17, and William Skeealy, aged 13, were next placed at the bar, charged with feloniously entering a  house in Atholl-street, Douglas, belonging to Francis Matthews, Esq., and stealing several bells, articles of brass, bell wire, &c. value 10s. and upwards. They were found guilty of Grand Larceny…. After the trials had been gone through, the Court was cleared, and the Hon. Lieut.-Governor with the Council present, sat in deliberation on the sentences to be passed on the respective prisoners about half an hour; when the Court was again opened, the prisoners were called to the bar to receive their sentences, which were ...Quine and Skeealy, transportation for seven years; ... William SKEALLY was convicted at the Isle of Man Gaol on 21 May 1824 for stealing from a house. Goal Report: " idle boy". Hulk Report: "bad, notorious thief". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Asia' arriving 1827. Stated he lived at home with his parents, Mr & Mrs Thomas Skeally, Douglas, Isle of Man. Father a labourer. Protestant. Colony of VDL: 1828: striking another man. 25 lashes. 1829: idleness & obstinancy. 25 lashes. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 15 Oct 1834 - Jesse THOMPSON (per ‘Jane’) to William SKEALLY (per ‘Asia’). Approved. MARRIAGE: 30 March 1835 - Jesse THOMPSON to William SKEALLY at Campbell Town, VDL. (re. 36/1/2 no. 3078) CHILDREN: Wife Jesse THOMPSON had a male child "William Skelley THOMPSON' on 9 Nov 1834, at Campbell Town, VDL. Father's name not recorded, but as "Skelley" was part of his name it might be assumed that William was the father (?). (ref. 32/1/2 no. 5884) Jane SKELLEY (not variation in spelling of surname) born 8 Oct 1838 at Launceston. Father - William Skelley. Mother - Jessey Skelley. (ref. 32/1/2 no. 8827)
