Convict Notes




Thomas Skerry was a Protestant who could read and write, 5ft 5½ in in height with a fair complexion, a round head, brown hair and blue eyes. Thomas, a Tinman and Brazier, was tried on the 8 July 1843 for burglary – housebreaking, stealing bread and cured bacon. Thomas was granted a Ticket of Leave in about December 1846 but this was revoked for misconduct on 14 September 1847. Restoration was refused on 3 November 1848, but restored on 20 February 1849. A Conditional Pardon was refused on 21 July 1849 and again on 12 February 1850. A Conditional Pardon was granted 3 February 1852, and on 23 July 1852 Thomas boarded the ‘Shamrock’ in steerage class at Launceston for Melbourne, Victoria.
