Transportation

Catherine Sleven was transported on the Margaret, departing 30th Apr 1840 and arriving 18th Aug 1840 with 78 passengers.

Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. Catherine Sleven/Slavin was convicted at Dublin in 1840 for stealing clothes. 7 yr Transportation sentence. To New South Wales, Australia on the ship "Margaret" 1840. Aged 22yrs; widow; 1 female child; Roman Catholic; native place - Dublin.
