Convict Notes
Robert was the second husband of my Great, Great Grandmother Caroline Gregory nee Vile. They married at Nundle on 18.9.1878 and resided on his property named "Rosemont" near Nundle NSW. The property is now part of a larger station and the original homestead is long gone and the paddock reverted to natural pasture. Robert died in Tamworth Base Hospital on 25.6.1887 and is buried in the Tamworth Council Cemetery and his grave is un-marked. His stepson William owned 10 grave plots in the Presbyterian section and it is believed he is in one of these. Caroline is also we believe buried in one of these plots. Her grave is also unmarked and no record of her burial can be found.
1837: Aged 27, assigned to the AA Company, Port Stephens. 1842: TOL, Port Stephens 25/2/1843: TOL Passport, on the application of Mr King, Commissioner of Crown Lands. 11/3/1844: TOL Passport, Port Stephens Bench. 20/2/1846: TOL Passport, Murrurundi Bench 29/4/1846: TOL cancelled for being found in a disorderly house, Maitland. 19/9/1846: TOL, Scone 25/3/1847: TOL Passport, Murrurundi Bench 15/10/1850: TOL Passport, Murrurundi Bench 9/8/1852: CP No death date found, no marriage or children found.
Tried and sentenced in conjunction with Nicholas Goodhew (also life sentence and transported on John Barry to Van Diemen's Land, Arrived August 11 1834.) Two women also tried, Ann Green and Harriet Wallis. All convicted. Stole £1/17/6 and a watch.
