4/9/1840 Sydney Monitor: Richard Nichols, Elihu Smith, (bond,) and Patrick McCarty, (free) breaking out of gaol. Nichols, guilty, ten years transportation. Smith and McCarth, not guilty, discharged. 1845: TOL Port Macquarie. 15/5/1851: (newspaper date) TOL cancelled. 16/5/1851 NSW Government Gazette: Elihu Smith, kSusan 2, 36, Gloucestershire, tailor, 5 feet 4½ inches, ruddy comp., brown hair, grey to blue eyes, two small scars right jaw, several warts on fingers of right hand ; from Ticket of Leave, Port Macaquarie, since November, 1850. 2/7/1855: CP

Tried Gloucester Assizes on 15 August 1835. Described as Single: Religion Protestant; Age 21; Native of Gloucestershire: Occupation Tailor (tolerable); Could read and write: Had one prior conviction and served 1 month: Height 5 feet 4 1/2 inches: Complexion Ruddy: Hair Brown: Eyes Grey to blue. Prisoner number 36/443. Assigned to Mr James Wright at Lanyon near Queanbeyan. Lanyon is now in the southern part of Canberra.
