... last, two women, named Elizabeth Smith and Mary Ogle, went into the shop of Widow Sedgwick, linen drapers, at this place, under the pretence of purchasing some articles, when the former being seen to conceal some lace under her clothes, was seized before she left the shop and the lace found upon her. She was committed to the Gaol, take her trial for the theft: was also Mary Ogle, for being her accomplice. Hull Advertiser, 8 April 1809. Elizabeth Smith, for stealing five yards thread lace, the property of Sedgwick and Gregson, sentenced to be transported for seven years.—Mary Ogle, who was with Smith when the robbery was committed, was acquitted. Hull Advertiser, 15 April 1809.
