Convicted of burning down a barn belonging his previous employer in Hackford, Norfolk. The evidence against him was that he refused to help put out fire and that there were footprints leading to the barn which matched his boots. He had said previously that he would like to leave the country. His defence lawyer said that it was not unusual for a young agricultural labourer to express these views.
