James's record on LINC states that he was 20 years old, single, could read and write a little, sallow complexion, reddish brown hair, dark eyes, freckled, native place: Horsham. Transported with his brother John (alias Hone) on board and also Thomas Morgan, all convicted of the same crime. 6 years probation at Impression Bay. 4/7/1853: Arrived Norfolk Island 3/11/1856: At Port Arthur. 29/3/1859: TOL 28/8/1863: Launceston examiner: HOBART TOWN AND THE SOUTH. BURGLARY-A daring burglary was committed at the dwelling house of George Gregory, situated on the Cascade Road. On the night of Monday the premises were broken into, and a large number of articles of clothing were stolen, with which the burglars would have decamped but for the timely intervention of Constable Dore, who arrested two men named William Millington and James Hayes; and they were yesterday charged with the burglary at the Police Court, and remanded until Friday. Both were found guilty and sentences to 6 years penal servitude. 13/8/1867: James was back at Port Arthur. 5/10/1869: CP. Could James Hone (Smith) have had more children. I have James born C1833 and John his brother, was listed as 26, so born C1827 ??
